A s a result, the performance of a key join - that is, an equi-join between a foreign key and a primary key - becomes critical t o the overall performance of those normalized database systems. In this paper, an architecture for relational databases whose relations are maintained as multidimensional linear hash files is proposed for the sake of efficient processing of predicted equi-joins. It is not l i m i t e d t o but is mainly aimed at the key joins. B y making a hash function for a composite key orthogonal t o each component of the key, a symmetric design of a database w i t h respect t o the j o i n performances on each part of the key can b e realized.
